In most households we work with, one person plans the holiday. She researches the destination, polls the family, books the flights, builds the itinerary, packs for the children, remembers the medicines — and somewhere in all of it forgets to plan anything for herself. She does not go on the holiday so much as run it.

It is, overwhelmingly, the woman of the house. And it is so normal that no one — least of all her — thinks to question it.
